Kolo Celebrates Slava

Kolo Celebrates Slava

On Sunday, September 23, 2018, the Circle of Serbian Sisters observed its Krsna Slava Mala Gospojina and 103rdanniversary.  The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by former dean and Kolo honorary member Very Rev. Uros Ocokoljich and concelebrated with our parish clergy, Very Rev. Dr. Darko Spasojevic, Cathedral Dean, Very Rev. Dobrivoje Milunovic and Rev. Nikolaj Kostur, parish priests.  A parastos was held for the repose of the souls of all deceased members and Kolo benefactors.

After the Liturgy parishioners and guests repaired to the banquet hall for the blessing of the Slavski kolac and banquet. Responses were beautifully sung by the S.S.S. Branko Radichevich.

Distinguished guests on the dais included our Cathedral clergy, honorary member Very Rev. Uros Ocokoljich and his wife Ivanka, our beloved Kuma Anka Govedarica, Executive Board president Dr. Gradimir Vuckovic and his wife Dr. Marija Molnar Vuckovic, Protinica Marija Stojanovic representing the Kolo Savez, choir president Jelena Stojakovic and our hard-working Kolo president Mira Djordjevic. Mistress of Ceremonies, Kolo second vice-president Dr. Vera Dragisich, kept the program moving smoothly, despite the search for the missing microphone!

Special thanks must be given to Danica Lukac for the preparation of the Slavski kolac, Jelka Strinic for the koljivo, everyone who assisted in the preparation of the delicious luncheon, including Zeljko Karanovic, sisters who generously donated pitas and pastries for our guests, and all those who helped in any capacity to ensure a joyous Slava celebration.

The Kolo, often described as being the right arm of the church, strives to help our Cathedral in so many ways—underwriting many church school activities and events, preparing dinners for clergy functions and most recently purchasing a new convection oven for the kitchen. Looking forward, the sisters are planning a fundraiser in the near future to help our beleaguered Serbian brethren in Kosovo-Metohija.  And, like many organizations, the greater inventory of helpers only strengthens it. All women of our Cathedral are encouraged to join Kolo in assisting in its mission to help our church wherever and whenever needed.

May our Lord grant our hard-working Kolo sisters many years of continued success.
