Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral Announces Important Expansion of Giving Options and Significant Endowment Funds Progress

As we approach the Nativity Season and the end of the calendar year, Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral is pleased to share with our parishioners and our wider community that donors are now able to give securities to the Cathedral, an expansion from our earlier ability to receive only cash contributions or donations of materials. This year also witnessed major progress for the Cathedral’s Endowment Funds, which provide critical long-term support for our ministries.

The Cathedral’s ability to receive donations in stocks and other securities has significant benefits for both the donor and the Cathedral.  Donors can take advantage of tax benefits and convenience when donating securities rather than cash, often enabling larger gifts.  For more information about gifts of securities, please contact our clergy or visit our newly created website at www.hrsocendow.org.

Several years ago, the Cathedral initiated its first-ever endowment funds, thanks to the generosity of several donors and establishing funds such as the Djuro Dragisich Fund, Milan Rakic Fund, Smiljana Pavichevich Knight Fund, and Milorad Cupic Fund.  Many organizations have created endowments to give donors the opportunity to make memorial or other gifts to provide long-term support of initiatives that have particular meaning to them and their families. The creation of the account to receive stocks and securities comes at the end of a year when the Cathedral’s Endowment Funds significantly grew, from $250,000 to nearly $1,000,000, following the establishments of additional funds that have been bequeathed to the Cathedral that is expected in January 2021. Our website lists our endowments to date and recognizes those whom the gifts remember and honor. Please contact any of our clergy for more information about the Cathedral’s Endowment Funds Program or to request a brochure.

On behalf of the Cathedral’s lay leadership and clergy, Fr Darko Spasojevic, Cathedral Dean, extends deep thanks to all who have embraced the endowment program. He noted, “I am confident that the Cathedral will raise the resources to continue to serve our congregation and grow our ministries, especially in this time of unprecedented health and social challenges. Gifts of any size are most appreciated and will be carefully stewarded and used to serve our mission. The endowment funds have a special role in providing reliable long-term support to our Cathedral’s ministries. Just as we are the beneficiaries of the hard work and foresight of earlier generations, we are dedicated to the long-term needs of our parishioners and community.”

Following in the footsteps of our St. Sava, let us adhere to the wise words of St. Paul the Apostle: “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work”.  (II Cor 9: 6-8)
